Another textile research institute at Illinois is the University of Illinois College of Engineering. People who want to start a nonwovens textiles business can enroll in classes designed to help them learn about the basics of the business. Students can concentrate on materials science and can study textile production through a man-made business fiber study program. The college also offers classes in applied textile sciences and nonwoven fabrics, and they conduct research and seminars that focus on these areas.

Nonwoven fabrics and apparel have a number of distinct qualities that sets them apart from other types of textiles. First, textiles have a much higher R value. This means that they are stronger than nonwovens and are more resistant to tearing or ripping.
